| Supply Shops ... An extensive rural supply network | | NASFAM Commercial | Through its member associations, NASFAM operates an expanding national network of Farm Supply Shops. These shops, many based deep within rural areas, serve both commercial and developmental functions. The supply shops form a reliable source of competitively-priced inputs, close to the farmer, allowing the purchase of the correct inputs at the time they are needed, and reducing transportation costs back to the farm. The shops also serve an important role by providing income for Associations, giving a contribution towards meeting Association overhead costs. Whilst many commercial operations are retracting from rural areas, NASFAM currently operates 47 shops and is expanding its presence at an average of around ten shops per year. | NASFAM Associations run shops on a franchise model, whereby standards must be maintained to uniform high levels. An increasing number of shops are now located in premises built by Associations under a “matching grant” support programme.
