NASFAM Appoints Dr. Betty Chinyamunyamu as Chief Executive Officer

The Board of Directors of the National Smallholder Farmers’ Association of Malawi (NASFAM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Betty Chinyamunyamu to the position of Chief Executive Officerfor NASFAM with effect from 1 October 2017.  Dr. Chinyamunyamu succeeds Mr. Dyborn Chibonga who has served in this capacity since 1999 and has since retired from the organisation. 

The Board wishes to thank Mr. Chibonga for his outstanding dedication and contributions to NASFAM. During his time as CEO, NASFAM has grown from a small Farmers’ Association to a sustainable business and a model producer organization. The Board wishes Mr. Chibonga success in his future endeavours.

Dr. Chinyamunyamu has close to 20 years’ experience in the agricultural sector. She has worked for NASFAM in various capacities over the years, rising to her current position of Deputy Chief Executive Officer.She has been responsible for overseeing implementation of all NASFAM programmes as well as supporting the Chief Executive Officer in formulating and implementing NASFAM Strategic Plans. Dr. Chinyamunyamu specializes in agribusiness development and management; strategic planning and programme development; policy analysis; grant acquisition and management; food security; and farmer economic empowerment.

A Development Economist by training, Dr. Chinyamunyamu holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree (with distinction) from Chancellor College, University of Malawi; a Master’s degree (with distinction) from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom; and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.
